SHINE Soup Kitchen

SHINE was founded in 2004 by Judy Burns with a desire to “Stop Hunger in Easley “. Today, we serve approximately 150 of our less fortunate neighbors Monday through Friday. Meals are offered to anyone who comes through the door, no questions asked. For some, it is the only meal they will receive on any given day; for others, the meals help alleviate difficult decisions, such as whether to pay the energy bill or buy groceries. More than 300 volunteers offer their time and energy in preparing and serving over 20,000 meals annually at a cost of $2.70 per meal.

SHINE meets a critical, basic need not only by meeting the growing demand for food, but also by offering a welcoming front door to all those who enter. The kitchen serves as the entry point to the services available through the Dream Center of Pickens County. We’re the first place our neighbors turn to for food, which in turn creates the opportunity for helping address the core issues that impact their lives.

We have many ways that you can help us serve our neighbors. You need to be at least 17 years old to volunteer in the kitchen and 13 years old to volunteer in the dining room.
